Astroscale France: Meet the New Faces Driving Space Sustainability
As we celebrate World Space Week 2024, the theme of “Space and Climate Change” underscores the importance of using space as a vital tool in addressing global climate challenges. At Astroscale France, we are committed to ensuring that space remains a sustainable and secure environment for future generations. This dedication is driven by our talented team, who are pioneering technologies that will safeguard our orbital environment.
This year, Astroscale France has been growing rapidly. We’re pleased to be able to introduce some of the newest team members who are contributing to the innovative work we’re doing to elevate our on-orbit servicing technologies – ensuring the continued use of space as an asset in the fight against climate change.
Anthony Decambray – Intern, Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC)
Anthony is currently on a gap year from CentraleSupélec Engineering School in Paris-Saclay, where he is pursuing his studies in space engineering. His interest in space debris mitigation started with a CubeSat project at school, and he’s now applying his skills at Astroscale France, focusing on trajectory design for electric low-thrust propulsion.
“I joined Astroscale France to work on real-world space debris mitigation projects, a field I am passionate about, and to contribute to the mission of keeping space clean and safe.”
Vincenzo Pesce – Lead, Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) and Computer Vision
With a PhD in Aerospace Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, Vincenzo brings extensive experience in space debris removal, formation flying, and autonomous space technologies. His career includes time at Airbus Defence and Space and a stint as a visiting researcher at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. At Astroscale France, he leads the GNC and Computer Vision teams.
“At Astroscale France, I lead the Guidance, Navigation, and Control (GNC) and Computer Vision team, developing solutions to ensure our spacecraft don’t get lost. I joined Astroscale because I’m passionate about pushing the boundaries of space technology and contributing to a mission that safeguards our orbital environment for future generations.”
Melissa Pane – Mission & System Engineer
Melissa graduated with honours from the University of Naples Federico II and has hands-on experience in space mission design from her time at OHB System in Bremen. Her passion for sustainable space management has led her to join Astroscale France as a Mission & System Engineer, where she focuses on innovative solutions for space debris mitigation.
“I joined Astroscale in July as a Mission & System Engineer. During my studies, I developed a strong interest in the issue of space debris. I truly believe the work we do at this company has the potential to reshape how we approach future space missions, encouraging more responsible and sustainable practices in protecting space.”
At Astroscale France, we’re proud to be building a team of experts who are as passionate about space sustainability as they are about advancing new technologies. As we continue to grow, we’ll be introducing more of the incredible people behind our mission to protect space for the future.
