Tokyo, Japan, Aug. 1, 2022 – Astroscale Japan Inc. (“Astroscale Japan”), a subsidiary of Astroscale Holdings Inc. (“Astroscale”), the market leader in satellite servicing and long-term orbital sustainability across all orbits, has announced the signing of a marketing partnership agreement with Hulic Co., Ltd., I-NET Corporation, Sangikyo EOS Corporation, and Systems Engineering Consultants Co., Ltd. This partnership contributes to space sustainability through awareness of and support for Astroscale’s space debris removal demonstration satellite, Active Debris Removal by Astroscale-Japan, or ADRAS-J.

“We thank the partners for their contribution,” says Miki Ito, Managing Director of Astroscale Japan. “On-orbit services, including debris removal, are essential to achieving space sustainability, and the ADRAS-J mission, which is scheduled to launch in 2023, is highly important in establishing on-orbit services.

The ADRAS-J satellite has been selected by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) for Phase I of its Commercial Removal of Debris Demonstration Project (CRD2), one of the world’s first technology demonstrations of removing large-scale debris from orbit. Scheduled for lift-off from Rocket Lab Launch Complex 1 in Mahia, New Zealand in 2023, ADRAS-J will launch aboard an Electron rocket. Once deployed to a precise orbit by Electron’s Kick Stage, the ADRAS-J satellite is designed to rendezvous with a Japanese upper stage rocket body, demonstrate proximity operations and obtain images, delivering observational data to better understand the debris environment. The second phase of CRD2, which has yet to be completed, will demonstrate the de-orbit of the debris.
