Flight Dynamics Engineer

Astroscale U.S. Inc. is currently seeking a Flight Dynamics Engineer to join our team in our Denver, Colorado location.

The Flight Dynamics Engineer will be a key contributor to the design, analysis, development, test and operation of our on-orbit service missions.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Support modeling and simulation development and execution for various phases in the engineering design cycle.
  • Perform mission design, analysis and support using orbital dynamics tools such as STK.
  • Conduct flight dynamics analysis using tools such as MATLAB.
  • Develop tools for analyzing orbital control, co-location, orbital events prediction, momentum management and propellant lifetime estimation.
  • Perform detailed analysis of separation dynamics, orbit dynamics, trajectory analysis, and optimization studies across a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Work directly with multiple stakeholders to develop mission software requirements.
  • Develop the on-board satellite flight control system.
  • Create test plans and performing functional software testing and integration of software.
  • Contribute to analyses and training activities that inform ground system development and mission operations activities.
  • Perform operations support during the launch and early orbit period.
  • Provide expertise for any flight dynamics related activity to other stakeholders.
  • Document and communicate your work to peers and customers.
  • Continually research the latest progress in flight dynamics analysis, software, and operations to grow our capability, service offering and value to the customer.

Qualifications & Skills

  • A bachelor degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution.
  • Experienced professional with greater than 10 years’ experience in astrodynamics, orbit estimation and control.
  • Broad and comprehensive knowledge of satellite missions, systems, and subsystems.
  • Well-founded understanding of orbital mechanics, trajectory simulation, optimization methodology, statistics, mass properties, and conceptual design.
  • Understanding of numerical analysis and software development, with demonstrated experience in modeling and simulation.
  • Knowledge of one or more scientific or engineering programming languages such as MATLAB, Simulink, Python, C, or C++.
  • Experience with on-orbit rendezvous and docking is preferred.
  • Familiarity with satellite servicing concepts and missions is preferred.
  • Strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required, as well as the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • U.S. person or U.S. citizen.
