When Astroscale was founded in 2013, there was skepticism about the viability of On-orbit Servicing or OOS. Now, OOS is recognized as key to securing a sustainable space environment and economy, which is paramount in safeguarding the operations of crucial satellite systems and Earth’s economies. These satellites are the backbone of our modern world, facilitating everything from global communications to earth observation, navigation, disaster monitoring, and climate change monitoring.

As the sector has evolved, so too has Astroscale, from a company solely focused on space debris removal to a comprehensive OOS provider that can develop and deliver services across the satellite servicing spectrum, including orbit adjustments, refueling, observation, and inspection. Our Rendezvous and Proximity Operations, or RPO, technologies, demonstrated in orbit during our two missions (ELSA-d and ADRAS-J), were unprecedented demonstrations for a commercial company and have enabled us to lead the development of OOS. We are empowering satellite operators to reduce risks, increase returns, and achieve mission success.

Astroscale isn’t just leading the technologies of space sustainability — we have a global team across five countries working with multiple governments and commercial satellite operators to drive the sector forward. We are also focused on influencing global norms of behavior and regulations, working to update policies that are no longer adequate in an increasingly crowded space environment and implementing new measures that support the sustainable growth of space.

Astroscale will be central to changing the trajectory of space sustainability and ultimately humankind’s future in space for the better. As more satellite operators adopt OOS to routinely inspect, remove, and extend the life of spacecraft, we are unlocking the potential of a circular space economy with the goal of achieving a future of no waste in space.
