COSMIC is Astroscale's UK-developed Active Debris Removal (ADR) mission concept. Developed through multiple phases of support from the UK Space Agency, COSMIC combines Astroscale's rendezvous and proximity operations (RPO) expertise with robotic debris capture technology and continues to inform the company's future debris removal capabilities.
Purpose / Objective
The COSMIC concept was designed as an evolution of Astroscale's ELSA-M servicing architecture, incorporating a robotic arm capture system for non-cooperative debris removal. The programme enabled Astroscale and its UK partners to mature critical technologies and mission designs for future active debris removal services.
