Chris Blackerby, former NASA Attaché in Asia, and senior space policy official in the U.S. Embassy Tokyo, has joined ASTROSCALE PTE. LTD. as Chief Operating Officer.

On July 14, 2017, ASTROSCALE announced the successful completion of a Series C funding round. With an aim to further expand its international presence, ASTROSCALE has incorporated an office in the United Kingdom to meet global market standards for on-orbit satellite servicing and named Chris Blackerby as group COO to oversee global operations. Among other roles, Blackerby will provide strategic direction and management and will help lead negotiations for global partnerships.

“This funding commitment, combined with the opening of our UK office and bringing Chris on as COO, indicates the growing international awareness of space debris as a global problem that must be confronted in order to safeguard future economic activities”, said Nobu Okada, Founder & CEO.

“ASTROSCALE is an innovative company with global leadership and a unique vision that will bring significant benefit to society,” said Blackerby. “I am looking forward to helping lead ASTROSCALE’s worldwide growth and am excited to be part of the team of ‘Space Sweepers.’” Blackerby has been a significant actor in the field of space cooperation and policy for over 14 years. In addition to serving for five years as NASA Attaché in Asia, Blackerby held a variety of influential roles in international relations and policy, including as lead for international cooperation for NASA Earth science and as Executive Director to the NASA Advisory Council.
